Good luck or good practices?

Wes at the Pinewood Derby competition, 2010.
I'm just so aghast that the boy scout motto of "be prepared, be prepared, be prepared" is rubbing off on me.

Hold on. I'm going to brag for a minute.

I'm a member of the professional printmaking group PrintMatters and they have a link to my website. A Houston artist saw my work due to that link, and I was invited to have my work reviewed for possible inclusion in an upcoming small group show in Houston. I needed to submit images, and if approved, have them framed and delivered. I set aside the entire day to get JPGs and details of my images ready to send. With only an hour in, I finished with the submissions which included photographing 2 new works. I'm shocked. Ordinarily this would have taken all day (Woo hoo! I had some time to practice the uke--my new hobby!).

I thank my cataloging software (WorkingArtist) and my time spent actually entering stuff in and photographing work as I finished it. And the real beauty of the initial request? It's a monotype show and I've been in the studio working on monotypes. Who knew? I hope you're working and cataloging and ready when good fortune comes your way. It feels great to be able to say yes to these types of opportunities with confidence.

Most of all I think I owe Alyson B. Stanfield and her book I'd Rather be in the Studio--a fabulous book and blog that really has pointed me in the right direction. (I'm lobbying for Alyson to come to Austin for a workshop!)

Thanks Alison. I imagine I'll hear soon about which, if any, prints get into the show. How are things going with you? Looks like you have some new work on your website.

Congratulations!

I suffer badly from being disorganized. There is a show in NY that I am going to apply for and I'm in a panic, I need photos, updated bio etc. etc. and so little time to pull it all together. I think I'm going to take your advice and get that book...

Thanks for the nice mention, Cathy. We'll make Austin work one way or another. I appreciate your lobbying efforts.
