2012 Art Goals

I just spent the last 2 hours working on I'd Rather be in the Studio. Our first art marketing salon starts today, and as co-facilitator, I figured I should be prepared. We're following the outlines from artbizconnection.com, and I encourage you to visit the site and form your own group. I am pumped up! Seriously. It's exciting thinking about the future and what could be if I dedicated more time to marketing.

Some of my 2012 art-related goals:
  • Create lesson plans for teaching art. It started with a meeting I had about instructing an 8-week workshop at The Griffin School next year. I'd like to explore teaching and an 8-week stint will be a great test to see if I can hack it. Plus it'll supplement my ultimate financial goals and the workshop would only be 2 days/week, so manageable without taking away from my current studio schedule.
  • I'd like to have my art on display at 10 different venues in 2012 (Etsy is included in the 10 by the way, so I'll be spending a chunk of time getting up to speed.) I was contacted out of the blue yesterday by a gallery north of Dallas to see if I'm interested in participating in a show. I am of course, and will be checking my calendar and inventory today to see if I can swing it, so that's at least 2. (Road trip anyone? Opening is Feb. 28.)
  • I'm beginning to work with Master Printer Darin Forehand in Houston. I'd like him to edition a print for me.
  • Create new marketing materials.
  • Distribute said marketing materials.
  • Redo website so it's easier to maintain.
I have others but they are boring. The ones above are the biggies. If you'd like to swap goals, I'm happy to email you the full list, but I want to see yours.

Oooo, Cathy, I love your picture. Care to share it?

Absolutely! I have a pic of the salon members to send you too. Everyone loved our first meeting. 2 participants have taken your online workshops--cultivating collectors and the getting organized one--so there's lots of buzz about how great they are.

Your blog is always such an inspiration and after thinking about the post on your 2012 art goals I decided it was time to take action on my goal #5.

Here are my goals for 2012.
1. Create art. More specifically, a series of indirect prints of Texas coastal fish and artworks suitable for the art fair market.
2. Generate income by participating in four or more art fairs.
3. Establish efficient business systems and routines.
4. Network with other artists.
5. Participate on the internet by writing comments on my favorite blogs.
6. Paint the front door.

I will modify these in six months because I will have completed some of them, especially the fish and the front door.

Happy printing.
