Marketing Materials

I've been thinking about this for a couple of days, then I received Alyson B. Stanfield's blog post on the same thing, so wanted to give you my experience on the matter. I bought a photobook to use as my art catalog from A & I Books--easy to use SW, nice book, but pricey--and brought it with me on my vacation. I don't own an ipad or tablet--yet--so it's a nice thing to have to show one's work. An advantage it has over an actual tablet is that I can leave it with the gallery. I think the key here is to make a book that looks nice, has some of the things Alyson recommends (mine was simply pictures, my name on the cover, and my url) and represents one's work. I'd like to find a place that has the same quality as A & I Books but perhaps a little more affordable. It would be nice to give booklets to collectors when the purchase a major piece. A & I sells their 8.5 x 11", 40-page book for $30 (plus shipping).

I also love moo.com for my business cards. I just rec'd a new stack in the mail. I like that they print up to 50 different images in the same order. Woo Hoo!

Cathy - I made up a more modest catalog, 12 pages, 8-1/2x11, you can view/download it at http://ptmcg.magcloud.com. I added some comments or backstory on most of the images, and have had several gallery owners comment that these additional notes are very helpful in supporting a particular artwork. I also added in-situ pictures as well as the plain images of the work, to show the pieces as they were shown or installed. magcloud.com is an HP-based website, and they have been very affordable and easy to work with.

Paul,

Thanks so much for the info on magcloud! I don't think I would have come across it otherwise. I downloaded your book and you did a fantastic job interspersing the text and imagery. I love how you did it. I figured it's worth a test for sure, esp since it's incredibly affordable. I'll be sure to let you know how it stacks up to A&I. BTW, can't beat that 3-day turnaround! A&I is about 3-weeks!
